The next wipe for Escape From Tarkov is not due to arrive until August, however, the patch it comes with will feature a lot of changes, including a ton of quality-of-life improvements that will make the game much easier to play.
The announcement was made during a live stream from developers Battle State Games earlier today, where the development team confirmed that the new wipe will not arrive until sometime in August, which puts it as one of the later mid-year wipes there has been. The team refused to give an exact date, as is always the case, but did sound hopeful that it would be sooner rather than later.
Fans have been eagerly anticipating the new wipe, with the current one running on a little longer than normal. This was likely due to the launch of a patch a few weeks ago which was designed to improve performance in Escape From Tarkov, but it only worked for some players, with others reporting worse performance as a result.
However, based on the roadmap that was shared by the team it appears that this will be quite a significant patch, with a lot of additions to the game. The first new feature that was announced, in true Tarkov style, was the addition of helmet-mounted flashlights, big stuff. Then we got some much-needed updates, such as an improved healing menu and QOL updates surrounding consumable usage, as well as a sell-all feature from scav runs. The big QOL change is a massive improvement to the trading and quest UI, which means you no longer have to back out of multiple screens to change which trader you speak to.
In terms of actual new content, the Streets of Tarkov map will be getting some changes including some new areas to explore, and some more optimization tweaks as you would hope if it is getting bigger! There’s also a load of new weapons and mods, including the PKM, SVT, AK12 and AVT40 to name just a few. Then there will also be a new boss added to Streets of Tarkov.
As the name somewhat suggests, a wipe in Escape From Tarkov removes almost all the progression that you have earned in the game. All your gear, character level, hideout progress and more are deleted and everyone starts from scratch. While it may seem drastic to outsiders, this is the way things go in Tarkov and it means that everyone is back on a level playing field. It also keeps the game fresh and typically arrives alongside a big new patch for players to get excited about.
