With nearly a month until release, Armored Core VI is gearing up for some big reveals. The first of which is a snippet of the story, which harks back to the Human Plus abilities from the older games.
Human Plus was the term for a series of character upgrades that afforded you extra abilities in game. From things like inbuilt radar and improved energy refresh, to laser blade waves and the all-important ability to fire back weapons while moving.
These Human Plus abilities were present for the first five Armored Core games and were then distilled into a special option part call OP-INTENSIFY for Armored Core 3 and Armored Core 3 Silent Line.
After that the player didn’t get access to Human Plus in the subsequent PlayStation 2 games, but annoyingly various enemies did. All this changed again in Armored Core 4 and Armored Core For Answer, where almost all of the Human Plus abilities were part of the player’s skillset from the off.
In Armored Core V and Armored Core Verdict Day, Human Plus took a back seat, but it looks like in Armored Core VI they are back again, at least in a narrative sense.
Giving some of the backstory for the various augmented pilots in the new trailer, all of this is very reminiscent of how Human Plus worked in the old games, especially that you get to see a pilot on the operating table.
This is because the original games often showed the Human Plus operations from the perspective of the patient, so this is a nice touch.
None of the trailer below shows gameplay, as it’s all very shiny CG, but the sound design and general combat looks very on point.
Armored Core VI is released on August 25 for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
