The long-anticipated Rick and Michonne spinoff of The Walking Dead finally has a release window, a brand new title and a trailer fresh out of San Diego Comic-Con which is going on this weekend.
The title is The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, which is the most Scott Gimple ever title for a show, and honestly gets my heckles up a bit it’s so absolutely awful. Maybe it wouldn’t bother me so much if the entire ensemble of The Walking Dead hadn’t chanted “We’re the ones who live” nonsensically over and over during the final episode of the main show.
“We’re the ones who live!”
Yeah, well, I’m the one who knocks, yo.
In any case, here’s the trailer:
“I’ve been out there a long time. I lost someone years ago. And then things changed. I found out that he’s alive,” Michonne says in the trailer. They must have cut the line where she also admits “I left my children behind during the middle of a war with insane people who wear zombie masks to go find him.”
The show is coming to AMC in 2024 and stars Danai Gurira as Michonne and Andrew Lincoln as Rick. I’m kind of looking forward to it, kind of dreading it. I feel the same way about Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) heading to France, though I will admit that the Maggie (Lauren Cohan) / Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) spinoff, Dead City, actually has been quite good. That makes me feel better about all these zombie spinoffs.
The Walking Dead isn’t dead, after all. It’s shambling onward, one variant at a time.
