It has been a long, long time since I’ve written a “get this thing as Xur” post, given that there’s usually nothing special anymore. But it’s also been a long time since he’s sold something with 70 total stats, something you may never even see in a wild drop despite a thousand hours of gameplay. 71 is the absolute possible max in the game, and nearly impossible to get.
Xur is currently selling a 70 stat Synthoceps for Titans, the OG exotic that buffs melee range, and increases melee and super damage when surrounded. It’s been a solid pick for many Titan builds for ages, and now, a 70 stat version?
Well, there’s a catch. Xur is being a bit of a troll with this offering. This Synthoceps has 22 Mobility and 20 Strength. And on the other side, only 10 Resilience, 12 Discipline and just 2 Recovery. Mobility and Strength are the two least-sought after stats in the game right now, alongside Intellect after past changes, so this having all its big stats stacked in those two is a huge bummer.
However, I would still buy it.
While this is long overdue, I have to believe that at some point, Bungie is going to come out with a buff for Mobility, at the very least, and perhaps Strength as well, given that melee cooldown means much less than grenade cooldown (maybe higher melee damage with more ranks?). Mobility, meanwhile, has long paled in comparison to Recovery and Resilience. Resilience used to be just as useless until it was changed to give significant damage reduction; now 100 points there is almost mandatory.
Mobility currently…increases jump height and walk speed. Yes, walk speed, not sprint speed, like strafing around with a weapon. And on Hunters it reduces dodge cooldown, which is the only reason you’d put points into it at all. Mobility is dramatically outclassed in every way by the always-on Amplified buff in Arc 3.0, and it absolutely needs an overhaul. I’m thinking it adds things like bonus handling and reload speed at baseline, the higher you stack it. Though even that may not be as useful as Resilience and Recovery, despite being a significant change.
I would buy it because…you never know. Resilience was absolutely pointless until Bungie made it the best stat to stack in the game. The same could be true if they ever make changes to Mobility or Strength, and then you may have a sick Synthoceps to play with.
Plus, hey, on at least some builds, Strength isn’t so bad for the punchy exotic anyway.
