Activision released another new trailer for this year’s upcoming Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare III, and this one is much more than just a vague teaser.
In the new trailer we get our first glimpse at the rebooted franchise’s version of Vladimir Makarov, the most diabolical and infamous of all Call Of Duty villains.
The ultranationalist terrorist is the protégé of Russian arms dealer Imran Zakhaev, who was killed by “Soap” MacTavish in the classic “Game Over” sniper level in Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Makarov was the unseen villain in that game before stepping out of the shadows in Modern Warfare 2 and taking on the role of primary antagonist in Modern Warfare 3. He’s something of a puppet master, pulling the strings that set events in motion to spark World War III and many of the catastrophic events in the first-person shooter video game series.
Now, the rebooted Modern Warfare series is bringing Makarov back, which is no surprise. At the end of Modern Warfare II, Laswell hands Captain Price a picture of Makarov after mentioning that the Russian Ultranationalists are working with a “new guy.” This set up Task Force 141 to hunt down the psychopathic terrorist in Modern Warfare III.
In a post-credits scene at the end of last year’s game, we get another clue about Makarov’s impending arrival. A man—clearly Russian—is sitting on a plane. We don’t see his face. He orders a salad and proceeds to assemble a plastic handgun from various parts. He finds a magazine taped inside the salad dish’s lid. A text on his phone says “Ready?” He replies “Ready.” Another text comes in: “No Russian.”
The man, and his comrades, stand up and the scene fades to black before we see the hijack (or massacre) take place. We can only assume that we’ll find out what happened when Modern Warfare III releases on November 10th.
Here’s the trailer:
As you can see, at the end of the trailer we get the date for the big reveal for Modern Warfare III, which takes place next Thursday, August 17th. We should get a full trailer for the game and hopefully more information about its release and—since this is taking place within Warzone—some news about the Battle Royale’s next big map, which is purportedly set in Mexico. The event kicks off at 10:30am PT. Players can assemble four-person squads to join in on the fun and watch the full reveal.
Stay tuned, and stay frosty.
