During a “what’s next” panel for Overwatch 2 at BlizzCon on Saturday, Blizzard had some news to share regarding the Hero Mastery mode. Game producer Monika Lee revealed that the team will add missions for five more heroes in Season 8, which starts in December.
You’ll soon be able to try Hero Mastery missions as D.Va, Echo, Genji, Lucio and Mei. Those add to solo missions that are already available for Mercy, Reinhardt, Tracer, Sojourn and Winston.
Lee added that leaderboard resets will go live as part of this update. The team is also preparing to roll out replay bookmarks. These will help you “rewatch parts of your gameplay and look for areas to improve your score,” Lee said.
That’s some welcome news as I’ve enjoyed playing the Hero Mastery missions that are available so far and I’m ready for more. As things stand, this will be one of the biggest updates coming in Season 8, along with new tank hero Mauga.
There’s another big update coming to the mode next year with Hero Mastery Gauntlet. It’s a three-player co-op Hero Mastery mode centered around enemy waves and tower defense, Lee said. There will be more types of bots to deal with, including flying bots, and you’ll be able to activate defenses like airstrikes and an ice turret. Heroes available in the mode will rotate seasonally.
