It’s been quite a weekend! The town was pretty wild with Pride festivities and then the next day we celebrated Father’s Day. All of this on the hottest weekend of the year. Nary a cloud in the sky, nor breeze to cool us. The only time to take the doggies out into the forest was early in the morning or just before sunset—both lovely times to stretch ones legs amidst the trees.
Now we’re back to Monday and another week on the third rock from the sun, as we spin toward my birthday, which also happens to be the longest day of the year and the Summer Solstice. Typically my birthday is the day before the solstice, but this year it’s both. Huzzah!
Okay, Wordle time!

Wordle Analysis
Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.
I thought SPACE would be a fun opening word and it really was pretty good. Anything that leaves me with fewer than 100 remaining solutions I count as a good first guess. I didn’t know I only had 92 words left at the time, but I had a yellow ‘P’ (heh) to work with and decided to try moving it to another box.
POUND got that yellow ‘P’ into green but was overall pretty unlucky. With 10 words to choose from and only two letters, I had to make the best guess I could think of. PILOT was close. I only had one possible remaining solution: PRIOR for the win.
When I hear PRIOR I think of both a Prior at a monastery and a prior, as in “Prior to going to the monastery, the pilgrims wrote a letter to Prior Benjamin asking if there would be enough room for them to stay the night.”
I also always think of Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, which is just a tremendous novel. I included it on my list of novels every Game Of Thrones fan needs to read.
Competitive Wordle Score
Once again, that conniving, weasely, mean-spirited Wordle Bot beat me, guessing today’s Wordle in just three. I get 0 points for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the evil Bot. Alas!
How To Play Competitive Wordle
Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “prior” originates from the Latin word “prior,” meaning “former” or “earlier.” It is the comparative form of “pro,” which means “before” or “in front of.” The Latin “prior” passed into Old French as “prior,” retaining its meaning of something that comes before in time or order. It entered Middle English in the same form and has been used in English since the 13th century, maintaining its original meaning of something that precedes another in time or importance.
In the Catholic Church, a “prior” is the title given to the head of a priory or a convent, which is a community of monks or nuns. The term “prior” is used primarily within monastic orders.
