In a departure for the classical functionally 2D Sonic the Hedgehog games, Sonic Superstars is getting the modern and very shiny 3D graphical treatment.
Not that I mind all the pixel art editions we’ve had as of late, with Sonic Mania and Sonic Origins being notable, it’s nice to see Sega keeping the series’ classic gameplay but giving it a 3D graphical make over.
Taking players to the North Star Islands, you will be able to play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose as you face off against Dr. Eggman and his minions.
The game looks lovely though (shown below) and has a lot going on in terms of various bonus games by the looks of it. All of this appears to be pretty classic Sonic and I am entirely fine with that.
As for release details, the game will be out at the end of the year, but specifics on when that will be aren’t clear yet.
What we do know is that the game will be available PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S. Xbox One, Switch and PC. With details on various editions to follow.
So following the actually pretty great Sonic Frontiers, we now have a proper old school Sonic game on the way later this year.
