It’s almost that time once again, folks. A new season of Overwatch 2 is nearly upon us. Season 4, which brought us Lifeweaver and a space opera theme, is coming to an end and the fantasy-themed Season 5 will soon commence. If you’re wondering exactly when Overwatch 2 Season 5 will start, don’t worry: I’ve got you covered.
Season 5 of Overwatch 2 will go live on Tuesday, June 13. Unless there’s a last-minute hitch (such as a technical issue), the season should start at 2PM ET. You can click here to see when that is in your time zone.
If you play on PC and you have automatic downloads enabled on the Battle.net client, you may now see a message below the play button on the Overwatch 2 tab that reads “Pre-release content downloaded.” If so, the Season 5 patch should be installed on your PC, so you should be all set to start playing as soon as the season commences. Console players will have to wait until Season 5 goes live before they can download the patch.
The Season 5 patch isn’t nearly as large as the Season 4 one. On PC, it weighs in at around 5.25GB. That’s far less than the Season 4 launch patch, which was up to a whopping 38GB, depending on your platform of choice.
When Season 5 gets underway, it will bring in significant balance changes for many heroes. Lifeweaver, Junker Queen, Widowmaker, Hanzo, Mei and Cassidy are all getting changes. Some other heroes will be tweaked too.
Blizzard has also revealed the Season 5 Mythic skin. Tracer is the lucky recipient this time around, with an elf-like skin for a fantasy-themed season.
Team 4 has revealed some of the other new skins for Season 5, including Demon Lord Reinhardt.
Unfortunately, there’s no new hero or map this time around. There will be a new limited-time event called Questwatch to check out. Throughout the season, there will also be a new cinematic, the Summer Games event and Workshop updates. The much-loved On Fire system is coming back as well.
Season 6, which should start in August, promises to have some much bigger changes, so I hope there’s enough in Season 5 to keep folks interested in Overwatch 2 in the meantime. We’ll find out much more about Season 5 when the trailer drops on Monday. I have my fingers crossed that Blizzard releases the Season 5 patch notes then too.
