If you’ve been playing Diablo 4 past the campaign and into World Tier 3 at least a little bit, you may have gotten a couple of “Unique” drops, which is currently the highest rarity in the game.
Unlike normal Diablo 4 Legendary or Sacred Legendary drops, they are wholly unique items that cannot have their affixes changed or removed, and have special, often build-changing powers as a result. Some of these are classic Diablo items from franchise history, and two in particular appear to be so rare as drops people are not sure they exist, as no one has even seen them.
But Blizzard is now confirming these two Uniques, Harlequin Crest and The Grandfather, are indeed in the game, they are just supposed to be some of the rarest items in existence. Here’s a lead Diablo 4 class designer and Diablo community manager weighing in:
Yes, they can actually be currently obtained, they go on to say. There’s no indication about if they drop from a specific area or boss, but I would guess probably only at World Tier 4. There are also rumors they may only drop at level 100, which few players have reached.
What are those items, for new Diablo players?
The Grandfather (Unique Two-Handed Sword) – Increases your Critical Strike damage by 60-100%, and the other properties on the sword can roll higher than any other sword.
Harlequin Crest or Shako (Unique Helmet) – +1000 max life, up to 10% cooldown reduction, up to 12% resource generation, up to +28 all stats, up to 20% damage reduction and the monster perk, gain +4 ranks to all skills.
At least that’s the alleged abilities of both of these items, some of the most storied in Diablo history, and still apparently monsters in the current version of the game. If they are A) only in World Tier 4 and B) only droppable after level 100 and C) extremely rare above and beyond other uniques, it may be a while until they get found.
Is this cool or a little too far? In a game of millions of players it would be odd for only a handful to be able to ever get these items. But then again, the wildly rare appearance of them is sort of mythological and neat, and without scammy item trading swapping around these between people, I can kind of get behind it.
So uh, happy hunting? But you may have a better chance at being struck by lightning.
