The Xbox Showcase and Starfield Direct streamed today, and Microsoft and its partners showed off a ton of really cool-looking games. Some of these we’ve been waiting for—like Fable and Starfield—and some of these were total surprises, like a brand new game from the creators of Persona 5 and a new adventure from the makers of Journey.
I’ve included most of the game trailers from the showcase below. Let’s dive right in. [Note: I’ll add the Starfield video once it’s on YouTube.]
Fable
What a very . . . peculiar trailer. Kind of a fun cinematic trailer, with the twist that the narrator is a vegan giant, but I admit I was hoping for a bit more. Still excited for more Fable!
Star Wars Outlaws
An open-world Star Wars game about the seedy underbelly of a galaxy far, far away? Sign me up! You play as the scoundrel Kay Vess and her companion, Nix. The game takes place in the time between The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi, at the height of imperial power.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
Keanu Reeves introduces us to the new Phantom Liberty trailer, which looks excellent. Idris Elba also plays a major role in the expansion. It launches on September 26th.
Metaphor: ReFantazio
From the creators of the Persona series comes an entirely new fantasy RPG that’s very clearly built using that franchise’s systems and mechanics. Instead of a game set in the real world where you dungeon delve into the mystical, this one is set in a fantasy realm. It looks fantastic! And one of the biggest surprises of the entire Xbox Showcase.
Sea Of Thieves: The Legend Of Monkey Island
A really fun-looking crossover between two games that were meant for this. Visit Monkey Island with your crew in Sea Of Thieves. This is one of three Tall Tales being added to the game for free starting on July 20th.
Microsoft Flight Simulator X Dune
One of two Flight Simulator announcements, but this one is more up my alley. I love the idea of using Microsoft Flight Simulator to explore fictional worlds, and Dune’s Arrakis is the perfect choice.
Payday 3
I’m very much looking forward to more cops vs bank-robbers gunfights in Payday 3. It’s been a hot minute since I played this series!
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II
This was another . . . odd trailer. I liked the first game, but I feel like this trailer leaned a bit too heavy into the voices in your head stuff when it probably should have shown more of the combat and gameplay.
Persona 3 Reload
I never played Persona 3, having started the series on 4 on the PS Vita. Totally stoked to play the remake!
Avowed
We’re getting so many cool looking fantasy FPS’s these days between this and Immortals of Aveum. This looks like a lot of fun. Obisidan makes some great RPGs. I can’t wait to see what they do with a first-person adventure.
Persona 5 Tactica
More Persona! But this time, with tactical gameplay that looks more like XCOM or Fire Emblem. Yes please!
Path Of The Goddess
Very colorful, dance-like combat here. I’m intrigued.
South of Midnight
A fantasy adventure set in a magical version of the American deep south. Cool concept.
33 Immortals
I have a question: In 33 Immortals, how am I supposed to keep track of my toon when there are 32 other players???
Dungeons of Hinterberg
One of many unique indie games, Dungeons of Hinterberg looks like a Zelda-like set in a colorful alpine village. Puzzles, combat, platforming. Looks great.
Jusant
From the makers of Journey, Jusant looks absolutely stunning. Beautiful environments, really fantastic platforming. I love it already.
Clockwork Revolution
InXile’s Clockwork Revolution is giving me major BioShock Infinite vibes.
Towerborne
I loved The Banner Saga and this looks like a really cool adventure game from the same studio.
Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth
‘nuff said.
Cities: Skylines II
I’m not a big city builder type but this looks pretty awesome.
Microsoft also showed off a brand new Xbox during the showcase.
